ARBOVIRUS
ARBOVIRUS ICD-10: A94
• Arbovirus (ARthropod-BOrne virus) is a group of RNA viruses transmitted to humans by arthropods.
• Vectors of Arbovirus. Mosquitoes, ticks, sandflies, and other arthropods feed on the blood of vertebrates and remain infective for life. The most important vector for human infection is the mosquito Aedes aegypti, less commonly by A. albopictus. Mosquito acquires virus by feeding upon viremic human; remains infective for life.
• Dengue, chikungunya, and Zika virus are special among arboviruses, having dermatologic manifestations in addition to acute symptomatic illness with fever, malaise, and headache. Other arboviruses do not cause rash with the acute infection.
• Other arboviruses that do not cause rash include yellow fever, West Nile fever, Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever, and hundreds of others.
