NUMMULAR ECZEMA
NUMMULAR ECZEMA ICD-10: L30.9
• Nummular eczema is a chronic, pruritic, inflammatory dermatitis occurring in the form of coin-shaped plaques composed of grouped small papules and vesicles on an erythematous base (Fig. 2-21).
• It is especially common on the extremities during winter months when xerosis is maximal; often seen in atopic individuals.
• S. aureus is often present but pathogenic significance has not been proven.
• Very pruritic. Course is chronic, lesions last from weeks to months.
• Management: Hydrate skin with moisturizer or moisturizing cream, topical glucocorticosteroids; phototherapy and other atopic dermatitis therapies can be very effective.
Synonyms: Discoid eczema.
