FELON

FELON  ICD-10: L03.0

• Local infection of the distal fingertip, occurring in the pulp.
• History: Penetrating injury, splint, and paronychia.
• Findings: Pain, erythema, swelling, and abscess (Fig. 32-17).
• Distribution: Thumb and index finger.
• Complications: Osteitis, osteomyelitis of distal phalanx, joint with septic arthritis; extension into distal end of flexor tendon sheath, and producing tenosynovitis.
• Course: May be rapid and severe.
