SYSTEMIC ACD
• After systemic exposure to an allergen to which the individual had prior ACD.
• A delayed T-cell–mediated reaction.
• Examples: ACD to ethylenediamine → subsequent reaction to aminophylline (which contains ethylenediamine); poison ivy dermatitis → subsequent reaction to ingestion of cashew nuts; also antibiotics, sulfonamides, propylene glycol, metal ions, sorbic acid, and fragrances.
